Barnsley Central MP and South Yorkshire Mayor Dan Jarvis has condemned proposals for a breakaway ‘European Super League’ including the Premier League’s Big Six clubs.

Commenting, Dan Jarvis said:

“These simply disgraceful proposals would have an enormous impact on fans, clubs and communities throughout the Football League.

“In particular, these proposals would lead to considerable loss of TV money from the Premier League, incurring a direct impact on clubs throughout the football pyramid, including at grassroots level.

“After an incredibly difficult year for our local clubs, further financial pressure would be simply intolerable.

“Our local clubs do amazing work to support grassroots football in our local communities. All that hard work and dedication should not be put at risk to feather the nests of a few extremely wealthy owners.”
