Culture, Media, and Sport: Mobile Services Competition

It is incredibly important that everyone has access to decent mobile phone coverage at competitive prices wherever they live in the country. I am concerned about the possibility of one single company owning a large share of the mobile phone spectrums, thus reducing competition in the market. There needs to be sufficient competition in this industry to ensure competitive pricing.

The Government and Ofcom should take steps to ensure that any forthcoming sale of mobile phone spectrums do not damage competition in the market. The threat of being able to switch to another high-quality provider is a significant bargaining tool for consumers when negotiating new mobile phone contracts.

We need to ensure there is a robust process for the sale of future mobile phone spectrums in order to reduce the change of future monopolies and a decrease in the quality of service.
