The Coronavirus is the gravest public health crisis we have faced & is profoundly damaging our economy. We will get through this with solidarity, courage, initiative, & hard work.
Here is what I’ve been doing to make sure South #Yorkshire plays its part.
We owe the people keeping us safe more than just words of support. I’m working with manufacturers & engineers to increase production of #PPE and get it to frontline workers in our NHS and social care system.
Our economy is taking a battering. I’ve established the South #Yorkshire COVID-19 Recovery Group to forge a collective economic response to this crisis.
Our businesses are struggling with the uncertainty & in some cases, loss of all revenue. I’ve put additional resources into the SCR Growth Hub to provide practical support & guidance for local firms weathering the economic storm.
School closures mean that an already unacceptable level of inequality in education will increase. I’ve worked with schools & stakeholders to close the Digital Divide and ensure every child can learn remotely during #lockdown.
For now we must all stay home, protect our #NHS, save lives. But when get through this together, it cannot be to return to status quo. Our sacrifice has to help build a better, fairer Britain.
