Happy New Year

As we prepare to move into 2012, it offers a perfect opportunity to reflect on what 2011 had to offer for Barnsley.

For me, it is a year that I will remember forever. It was a great honour to be selected as the Labour candidate for the by-election on 28th January and it was an even bigger honour to win the seat in March.

2011 saw the launch of Proud of Barnsley – an initiative aimed at changing our local, regional and national profile through raising aspiration amongst all in our Town.

2012 will be yet another historic year for Barnsley. In a couple of days time, I will be announcing the winner of the first ever Proud of Barnsley picture competition at the Digital Media Centre. Look out for more competitions and events through Proud of Barnsley in 2012.

Nowhere else in the world has been as proactive in forging an Olympic partnership as Barnsley. The Newham-Barnsley Partnership will go from strength to strength in 2012 meaning the Olympic legacy will reach right across our town. Don’t forget, we will also have the Olympic Torch relay coming through the heart of Barnsley.

Also in 2012, Experience Barnsley will officially open which will give us the opportunity to celebrate the past, present and look to our Town’s future.

I am very excited about what the New Year has to offer our Town.

However you plan on seeing in the New Year, stay safe and enjoy it.

With very best wishes for 2012.

Dan
