This Sunday, Dan Jarvis, MP for Barnsley Central, will be joining thousands of runners on the 26.2 mile course through the streets of London to raise money for Cancer Research UK. With just a few days until his London Marathon attempt, Dan is urging people to show their support for Cancer Research UK and the essential work they do in combating cancer.
Dan, whose first wife died from Bowel cancer in 2010, said, “I know firsthand the devastation which cancer causes amongst families. It can affect all of us, no matter how young or what our circumstances are.
“Cancer Research UK is a charity very close to my heart. I believe they are a hugely impressive organisation, doing incredibly important and vital research. All the money raised will be going to a fantastic cause which will help thousands of people across the country”.
He added, “I would like to ask people to consider making a donation to Cancer Research UK by sponsoring me. By making a donation you will be supporting life-saving research, bringing forward the day when all cancers are cured. In the 1960s, only around a quarter of children with cancer survived. Today, three quarters survive. This progress is a testament to the work of Cancer Research UK.”
Other examples of the charity’s recent work include helping to develop the drug abiraterone, now licensed in Europe for treating advanced prostate cancer.
