It is important to ensure that local pubs are able to survive and thrive at what is a difficult time for the industry. The Labour Party has previously supported steps to relieve the tax burden on local pubs, such as through supporting the scrapping of the beer duty escalator.
It is important that we continue to support local businesses, by ensuring that savings are passed on to landlords and then consumers.
Business rates have risen considerably under this Government, hitting smaller pubs particularly hard. Labour is committed to reducing reviewing business rates system for small enterprises, giving much needed help to landlords across the country.
Labour also want to change the regulations that govern practices between licensers and landlords, ensuring that rents are fair and that pubs can continue to be sustainable enterprises going forward.
